Bolivia - Strengthening the Hydrogeology Department of the Servicio Nacional de Geología y Minería
Country / Region: Bolivia / AmericaFocus: Groundwater
Begin of project: May 2, 1991
End of project: August 30, 2000
Status of project: November 29, 2005
The goal of the project was to qualify SERGEOMIN’S Hydrogeology Department for consulting at the departmental and municipal levels in the area of water supply and distribution and when adopting regulations for management and for the protection of groundwater resources.
On the one hand, the project covered the exploration of groundwater resources in selected model areas of Bolivia as a basis for their efficient use and protection. On the other hand, the project served to help develop and strengthen the hydrogeology department of the Servicio Nacional de Geología y Minería (SERGEOMIN), whose task is the exploration and evaluation of groundwater resources in terms of securing drinking water supply for the population.
The German contribution is designed to use the mediation of knowledge, experience and modern technical and methodical expertise to improve the efficiency of the hydrogeology department in those areas for which it has previously not been able to get qualification or obtain on its own.
